Why Pre-Orders?

Why have Obsidian Modular Tool Kits been mostly on "pre-order" during 2026?

We have chosen to manage our production cycles carefully to ensure quality control. Some companies may drastically increase production capacity and risk losing oversight of quality standards. We feel it is better to pursue quality if it means having gaps in inventory.

We are increasing production capacity, and pre-orders will no longer be part of the ordering process.

You Are Not Charged at Checkout With a Pre-order Submission

We built out a unique pre-order system that reserves your order in place but DOES NOT hold your money. This part matters to us. We never use money charged to customers to fund production. We will never accept a completed payment unless the product you have ordered is in stock and ready to ship.

When you submit a pre-order, you provide payment information to reserve your kit, but you are not charged anything at checkout. We do not take a deposit, and we do not place a pre-authorized hold on your card.

We process payment only after the complete kit is in stock, verified, and ready to ship. You will be notified before your order is processed.

What Happens After You Pre-Order

  • You submit your order and reserve your place in the next available inventory allocation.
  • We provide the current estimated shipping window on the product page.
  • When the complete kit is received, verified, and ready for fulfillment, we will process payment and assemble your order.
  • Your kit ships, and tracking is sent to you.

We work to keep estimated dates current and will communicate if a timeline changes.

Why Not Simply Keep More Kits in Stock?

That is the goal, and we expect that pre-orders will be a thing of the past in the next few months. For now, controlled production runs allow us to maintain quality control, receive, verify, and release complete inventory before we promise it for shipment. Pre-order gives customers a straightforward way to secure the next run without paying months in advance.

If the estimated timing does not work for your plans, please contact us. We are eager to serve our customers well and hope to serve you specifically.

Thank you for the patience—and for the demand that keeps making this necessary.

About Obsidian

Obsidian Engineering of Utah was created by a small group of adventure riders and chopper builders who happen to love engineering—the kind of engineering where you notice something long overdue for change or in dire need of improvement, then engineer ways to make it far better.

When those ideas work, we believe the world deserves to know it.

We won’t claim that our products will change the world, but they may change yours.
We figure this—if you find yourself in a bad situation and, as a result of an Obsidian product, you’re able to turn that catastrophe into an epic story, we have done our job well.

So yeah, that’s it in a nutshell. That’s our “About Us” page.

So, go. Avoid the straight lines. Find adventure. Obsidian will be with you, and you’ll be way better prepared to find what’s out there.
