Wheel Removal Tool Sizes

To provide a more comprehensive system, this kit will include our KTM-specific bundle of wheel service adaptors. The bundle includes axle attachments in 27mm, 30mm, 32mm, and 17mm internal hex. Your bike may not require all included attachments but this will ensure compatibility with your bike and other KTM, Husqvarna, and GasGas models.

Rear Wheel Removal / Install

The smaller, light KTM models vary in rear axle nut requirements.

The rear axle nut on the listed models is typically 30mm.

Front Wheel Removal / Install

Front wheel removal requires the included 17mm internal hex attachment and the included 10mm socket for axle pinch bolts.
Use the included 10mm to remove brake calipers to achieve needed clearance for removal and reinstallation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Since the Obsidian Modular Tool System is offered as a preassembled, model-specific tool system, does this limit its functionality?

Short Answer… no.

What makes the Obsidian Modular Tool System model-specific is primarily the attachments designed for wheel removal and reinstallation. The tool requirements for this vary quite a bit, not just by make but from model to model.

Aside from the attachments we include in your tool system for wheel removal service, we intentionally designed your Modular Tool System for comprehensive functionality.

It covers all common fastener types while achieving this in a modular, bulk, and weight-saving design.

Included are metric sockets, metric wrenches, Torx drive bits, Allen bits, Philips and JIS bits, along with appropriate adaptors and extensions for high- and low-torque applications.

The comprehensive functionality ensures that your bike’s OEM fasteners are covered, as well as those on mounted aftermarket accessories.

What if I own two or more bike models? Can I have one Obsidian Tool System and use it on all the bikes I own?

Short Answer… Yes

Please note that the tool system is not made bike-specific as a clever gimmick to sell one kit for every bike you own. Our intent is to make tool choice simple and easy.

As mentioned in the previous FAQ section, the only distinction between each kit is the attachments made for wheel removal.

If you have two or more bike models, there are several ways to ensure that a single kit is fully functional for each bike you own.

  1. Review the wheel removal attachment sizes included in this kit, and compare them to the kit listed for your other bike/s (other bikes not listed? Jump to #4)
  2. You may discover that they are already compatible, or if not, you will see what sizes are needed.
  3. If other sizes are needed, we offer these attachments for sale as affordable standalone items (linked here).
  4. Get our help- It sounds easy, but figuring out what each bike requires can be a hassle. Reach out to us, and we can help ensure each bike model you own is covered by a single kit order.
  5. We won't stop you from ordering a kit for each bike, as some riders have chosen to leave the tool system packed and always on their bike. This can be convenient if you own multiple bikes, but we are not about finding clever ways to convince you it's a must.

What if I lose an attachment or need to replace a specific component?

Each component in your kit can be purchased as a replacement if something gets lost. If you see that a replacement kit component is not listed as a standalone item, please let us know so we can get our act together and be better at life. We’re glad to help get you what you need.

What is the Obsidian warranty, and if I have a component failure, what do I do?

The Obsidian Modular Tool System features a limited lifetime warranty against defects. Details of the warranty are forthcoming. Should an issue arise, please follow the contact process outlined on the warranty detail page linked above.

Designed for Motorcycle Travel — Not the Garage

Old tools work. They were just never designed for motorcycle travel

Traditional garage tools assume space, weight tolerance, and redundancy don’t matter. On a motorcycle, every ounce counts and every cubic inch is precious.

Instead of finding clever ways to pack old tools for travel, we decided to reinvent the tools themselves.

Through Directional Load Geometry and a modular-first system design—where components are engineered to serve multiple functions—strength is preserved exactly where force is applied while unnecessary mass is removed everywhere else. The result is a full-function tool system weighing just 4.5 pounds.

A System That Removes Guesswork Before You Pack

Packing tools shouldn’t feel like a gamble, and your tools shouldn’t have to fight for space.

Most riders face the same choice: overpack “just in case,” or leave something behind knowing it might be the one tool they need. Preparedness usually comes from hard experience — and failure.

Obsidian eliminates that tradeoff. Each Modular Tool System is preassembled, model-specific, and intentional. If a tool is included, your motorcycle requires it.

Your garage tools stay in the garage. Your Obsidian system stays packed, organized, and ready — grab and go, every time.

Engineered to Reduce Cognitive Load Under Stress

Trail-side repairs aren’t difficult — until stress makes them so.

Fatigue, exposure, time pressure, and uncertainty degrade working memory and decision-making. This stress-induced cognitive narrowing is why simple repairs feel overwhelming when conditions aren’t ideal.

Obsidian is designed to reduce that load. Tools are organized intentionally, visible at a glance, and accessed without rummaging or reassembly. Like a surgeon’s tray, the system preserves mental clarity by removing unnecessary complexity — allowing you to focus on the repair, restore momentum, and continue under your own power.

Self-Reliance. Self-Recovery. Self-Rescue.

Obsidian is not just a brand—it is the result of years spent riding, breaking down, being shamefully unprepared, improvising, and learning what really matters when things go wrong. Out of those bad situations, great stories are born.
